Goes on great and looks great. You have to start with bare wood but since 95 percent of the old varnish had peeled off it was easy to sand and prep. You don't have to sand between coats and a friend recommended it because you only have to lightly sand/scratch the surface next year to reapply. This is a penetrating product not a layering product. You don't get that real thick glossy look that comes from a great varnish job but the ease of applications and the great look more than make up for that.

Great look, less work than varnish

Having our boat stay in Virginia or points south throughout its life, the sun is intense and the wood needs good protections. However, there is enough exterior wood, that applying endless coats of varnish would be wearying. With Cetol, a single maintenance coat is enough to keep the wood looking great year after year. And the Natural Teak is much better at letting the wood's grain show through than the Cetol Marine Light that we used before. We've used Cetol for 7 years now, and Natural Teak for 4 years. I'm a firm believer in this product.
