13 X 17 HUSTLER 4-Blade ALUM 2143 1730
Q:
I just bought a 13.25 x17 4 blade for my 17 foot 1973 silverline boat. i have a 1973 85 johnson outboard. will this be the right size. i have a 13.5x15 4 blade now and i turn 6000 rpms.?
A:
We do not have original specs or suggested RPM range for your motor. It will all depend on what pitch you're running at to get 6000 RPM's. 6000 may be a bit high but you will need to consult Johnson or a repair manual for that. Pitch theory is for every pitch increase you decrease RPM's by about 150-200.

I have a 1973 17 foot silverline boat with a 1973 85 evinrude running ac13.5x15 4 blade prop. It turns 6000 rpms. I just bought the 13.25x17 4 blade prop hoping to bring rpms down to 5500. Was this the right buy for my boat?
A:
We do not have original specs or suggested RPM range for your motor. Pitch theory is for every pitch increase you decrease RPM's by about 150-200. So you will be about 5600 RPM's going from a 4 blade 15 pitch to a 4 blade 17 pitch.
Q:
My dad has a 18 foot cataman leader boat. It has a 70 evinrude 4 stroke on it. He has a 13 pitch 4 blade prop and it only gets 5 thousand rpms. It also cavats alot if the seas r a little bumly. What pitch of a 4 blade prop would u recomend. Thank u?
A:
Again pitch theory is for every pitch increase you decrease RPM's by about 150-200 and vice versa. So if you need more RPM's you need to decrease the pitch. You will not want to go up in pitch as that will most likely put you outside your suggested RPM range. The RPM range is important as it is the manufacturer's suggest range to get maximum performance from the motor.
