Stainless Steel Boat Cleat, 8" - Seasense

I bought these mainly to hang fenders from on my houseboat. I read the other review that said they were not very stout. So I bought them knowing they might not be very strong but would be fine for my use. They are about as heavy as a 4-5 inch cleat just longer so if you need a 8" cleat to tie your boat I would opt for another brand but in defense the price is significantly less on this one.

my dislike of the product comes from the size. looking at the picture and knowing what a 4" cleat looks like, i figured the 8" would be twice the size. well, maybe it is, but only in the overall length and width (maybe). the material itself did not grow in diameter as one would expect. to me, the 8" wouldn't hold any more load than the 4". i ordered bigger because i have a big boat. these cleats look like they should belong on my dingy. i will not order the other half (3ea) to match this size. if i had been thinking, the mounting bolt size should have been a clue. but maybe not. my current cleats use the same 4ea 1/4 inch bolts, but the holding bar is at least 1/2 inch diameter, as is where it is attached to the deck plate. their strength is quite amazing. i like the design, just wish there was more beef to the deck.
