Input end was too big of a diameter preventing assembly with the mating connector

The input end ( opposite the hose fitting end) was too large a diameter ( not a machined surface) preventing it to assemble with the mating female connector. Apparently a machining operation has been omitted. See picture ..... shows a machined surface.

This is the tank connector so you will need to confirm barb size. This is 3/8" barb tank connector.

Will this part fit on a 2001 25 hp Mercury Model 1025301zd? I've had a very hard time trying to find the right fuel line connector for this motor!!?

No this design is for pre 1998 engines. This will not work for your application.
