Installation is simple and straight forward. Lights facing forward are extremely bright, lights on the side are not very bright, but don't need to be. They can be operated independently of one another, though I don't really see the point. The stainless steel base plate conforms to the curvature of the hull quite easily. I use these on the bow of a 23' cuddy cabin, primarily for navigating through the bridges and narrow channels in my area. Quite a bit easier than using a hand held spotlight.
