Expect a 2 lb unit of Gluvit to cover 25-35 square feet, when applied at 6-8 mils.

Gluvit barrier coat seals and protects hulls and decks. Provides superior protection for fiberglass, wood, aluminum, and steel. Seals leaky seams and rivets in aluminum hulls, and leaks around fiberglass cabins or decks. Hard protective coating flexes with hull movements to bridge and seal hairline cracks.

Gluvit fills minor cracks and pinholes. Its long working time allows penetration into cracks to seal and strengthen. Acts as a barrier coat to minimize water absorption and galvanic corrosion. Deteriorated wood can be renewed with a few strokes to penetrate and strengthen stringers, decking and molding.

On wooden hulls, Gluvit seals and protects planks and sheeting against water absorption and damage from marine parasites. On aluminum hulls, Gluvit seals seams and rivets and acts as a barrier coat to minimize galvanic corrosion. On jet skis, rowboats and canoes, Gluvit provides abrasion resistance to protect hull sides and bottoms from damage by grounding on beaches or rocks.

For maximum ultraviolet protection, Gluvit must be painted after cure. Before overcoating, lightly sand this waterproof epoxy sealer to ensure adhesion. Any pigmented epoxy, urethane, latex or alkyd base paint can be used to overcoat Gluvit.

good stuff!
by James from Macomb, Illinois on May 25, 2012
Used it to repair some seeping leaks on my aluminum boat. Easy to apply, flexes with hull, seals the leaks! Does what it says it will. The only downside was prepping the surface, but that would be a pain regardless of the project. Very satisfied with Gluvit.

Gluvit Epoxy Sealer
by Charles from Homer, Louisiana on August 02, 2011
I used this to cover just the rivets on a 14X36 john boat and only needed a small amount at a time. The instructions on the large can does not mention if you need to stir the contents before measuring the amount that you need. I have not put the boat in the water yet, so I can not give a thumbs up or down on Gluvit. Around the rivets seem to be hard like glass, I hope it holds up.

Q:
Will this work on pontoons? have some pitting maybe pin holes?
A:
Yes this will work with fiberglass, wood, aluminum, and steel.

Q:
I have a 1965 15 ft aluminum boat, a lodestar. The rivets leak. My thought was to take everything out of the boat and paint the inside with Gluvit to stop the leaks. Do you think this would work?
A:
Yes this product will be great for that use. Be sure to clean the area properly and abrade with 80-100 grit paper before applying the coating. This product will flex well to the aluminum and should prevent any future leaks.

Q:
Oes gluvit have to be bottom painted when applied to rivets on outside bottom of boat?
A:
This is not an antifouling item. So if you are storing your boat in water you will need some type of antifouling paint to go over it. You will also need to contact the manufacturer to confirm if there is a primer that may be recommended.

Q:
If boat is not kept in water does gluvit have to be bottom painted?
A:
That is something you will have to contact a technician for recommendations and how much you do your boating. However, the purpose of antifouling paint is to resist the organisms in the water that attach to the hull.

Q:
Will it work on the out side on alum boat for leak at rivets in stern.?
A:
Yes this would be a great product for that purpose.

Q:
How much to do a 18 ft boat?
A:
It depends on the square footage of your boat and how much coverage you need. Expect a 2 lb unit of Gluvit to cover 25-35 square feet, when applied at 6-8 mils.

Q:
How difficult is it to apply to the outside of an 18 foot boat?
A:
Installation is pretty simple you just apply it with a brush or roller. Preparation is removing contaminants such as grease, oil, dirt with lacquer thinner. Then you need to sand to bare surface with 80-100 grit sandpaper. Then remove all dust and grit with another rinse of solvent. This should help give you an idea.
