You can peen drain tubes, but this tool makes it pretty much foolproof- even for a talented fool...

I replaced the drain tubes on a 17 Whaler sport. I did not use o-rings for this application, I sealed the ends with 3M 4200. I had a 6' length of .032 brass tubing and I am happy for the extra material for practice. What I learned.... I cut the tubing at least 1/2" longer than the length of the hole. Flair the first end with one die turned 180 degrees (flat) so it does not flair that end. Flare the one end. Slide the tubing into the drain hole and mark the tubing length 1/4" longer than the hole. Anneal straight end with a torch until it is cherry red and allow to cool slowly. I did not quench it in water. The second flair was made using the tool as directed. If one surface is not square to the hole, make sure you flair that end (annealed) last. Once that last flair is complete (and square) I used the round end of a ball peen hammer and pushed it against the end of the flair, working the high lip until it rolled over against the hull.

only works on 2" and thicker hulls any smaller and die faces touch before drain tube is tight need to shave off some of inner die face so it will work on thinner hulls.
